The Lagos Traffic Radio 96.1FM formally came into existence on 29th of May, 2012. A creation of the Lagos State Government, the station, located few meters from the Lagos State Government Secretariat is within the confines of the Broadcasting Complex, along Lateef Jakande Road, Agidingbi, Ikeja,Lagos.
Lagos Traffic Radio 96.1FM, unlike most of her contemporaries in Nigeria electronic media spectrum, is a thematic radio station. The main objective of the station is to be a key partner with stakeholders in road traffic management and utilization in Lagos state in collectively tackling the ugly incidence of traffic congestion along major roads in the main economic hub of West Africa.
Lagos Traffic Radio 96.1FM operates as a depository of current data on the state of things on Lagos major roads as provided by Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) and other stakeholders. This information is periodically relayed to listeners of the stations signals on 96.1MHz on the FM band between 5am and midnight, seven days a week.
It is believed that listeners armed with this information will be better positioned to plan their routes using the network of roads constructed by Lagos State Government thus contributing in no small measure towards the “Itesiwaju Ipinle Eko..”. Currently, plans are at an advanced state to extend the operations of Lagos Traffic Radio to cover rail, water and air transportation activities in Lagos State.
Lagos Traffic Radio 96.1FM started commercial operations in 2015 after the appointment of Mr. Layinka Adagun as the General Manager of the station by the Governor of the State Lagos State, Mr. Akinwumi Ambode.
